God, it was so cold.

___________ was wearing layers upon layers of clothes but still she felt like her limbs would crack if she moved them.

She sat on the cold, hard ground for a while before jerking herself to her feet. They shook and trembled, and she felt pins and needles prickle throughout her whole body.

"A-A-Adam?" she shouted. "Where are you?"

Her voice didn't echo as she'd expected; it was dull and muted, like a piano strike in a small room.

She stumbled across the grey landscape, searching for some source of water. After a couple of hours of searching, she gave up. The only thing she saw for miles was cracked, black and white dirt. It was a desert the color of night. There was not a tree or a plant or a stream anywhere. It was maddening.

"This is what hell is like?" she murmured.

She tripped over a rock, which had suddenly appeared. Blood swelled up from her cuts but she was glad to see some color.

She wiped her hands on her jacket and continued walking, but this time more apprehensive.

She swore she heard laughing.

"Adam?" she asked, spinning around.

"__________?" he asked, emerging from a rather jagged crack.

"Adam!" she yelled, running towards him. She threw her arms around his neck and squeezed him hard.

"Are you okay?" he asked, grabbing her shoulders and inspecting her.

"Yeah, are you?"

"I'm good," he answered.

"You just crawled out of a ravine," she stated, arching an eyebrow. She kicked a rock into one and they watched as it fell for minutes, never hitting the ground. It was still falling when Adam spoke.

"It's all an illusion. This whole place is. These little ravine things are actually like a foot deep." He jumped into one beside them to prove his point and _________ almost screamed. He started laughing at her shocked expression. "No biggie."

She sighed in relief. "Have you seen them?"

His smile slipped away. He shook his head. "I've heard from Michael, but I haven't seen Lucifer."

"Michael? What did he say?"

"He said to stay out of the way, but there's no way to tell where they're at."

"Oh."

"I mean, I heard some crazy stuff around here about ten minutes ago, that's why I hid. I haven't heard anything since you showed up."

"Good," _________ said, crossing her arms. "I don't want to get caught up with them."

"Why'd you jump after me then?" he asked, his expression darkening. "You're an idiot."

"I grabbed you but you were already falling! I didn't want to fall in here with you! I wanted to pull you out, Adam!" she snapped.

"You were intent on saving me? Why?" he asked, his angry face changing into a doubtful one.

"I don't know," she said quietly.

"___________, look what you've done now. You're stuck here too."

"Not like I-"

Suddenly two figures rocketed out from the grey sky, slamming into the ground a few hundred feet away. Adam grabbed _______ and moved in front of her.

"Adam, run!" she whispered.

"They're archangels, __________ they know we're here."

"Close your eyes!" she said quickly, shielding her own. They turned away and they could see the light from behind their eyes.

He grabbed her and leapt into the closest chasm. This time, however, they began plummeting further and further down.

Adam opened his eyes and saw __________ falling a few feet away. He reached out and grabbed her hand.

"Adam! We're going to die!"

"Really?" he shouted sarcastically, even though tears streamed from his eyes. "I'm so sorry! They were changing into their true forms and-and-and I-I just-"

She nodded and they fell together.

They landed at the bottom, and ___________ fell into something soft and firm.

Adam, on the other hand, was crumpled in a heap against some rocks.

"It's all an illusion," she mumbled. "It's all an illusion."

She scrambled over to him. "Adam?"

He groaned. "___________ this wasn't the plan."

"Really?" she said, smiling reassuringly, although her eyes were worried. He grabbed her hand.

He cringed. "I know they'll come for us, soon. Castiel came for Sam, and he'll come back. I'm a Winchester too, even though I didn't really know that."

"Are you okay for right now?"

"Yeah, I landed on something sort of soft too, like you did, but I think I broke my rib on impact."

"Okay, good."

They sat there for a while, against the rocky wall under a cliff that jutted out, protecting them from the fighting going on above.

"I'm really scared," she sighed.

"This is Hell, you know."

"I really really want food too."

"Burgers please."

"Yeah, that would be awesome."

They sat there for a while, listening to deafening explosions and screeches like none __________ had heard. It was a mixture of a hawk and a dying human, undeniably angelic and obviously pained and angry.

"I hate that sound," Adam shuddered.

"Me too."

A particularly loud explosion rang out and a few chunks of grey granite tumbled down from the rock above them. Adam ducked over _________ to shield her.

The rocks missed them, but they were still breathing hard, staring at the boulders that rested merely feet away.

"This is really bad," he breathed. She gulped and nodded.

He pulled away from her, but his eyes met hers.

"I promise, we'll get out of here. This is my fault, and I'll make it better," he said, his face scrunching into something a mix of determination and fear and hopelessness. ____________ nodded.

"We can do it."

"Yeah," he sighed, reaching out to stroke her face. He smiled sadly. "We will."

Another blast exploded above them and Adam pulled her flush against his chest, and pulled himself against the wall. "Don't move."

She nodded and closed her eyes. His hammering heartbeat thundered in her ears. His warmth was welcomed; it was still freezing cold. "We're spending the night here, aren't we?"

He nodded. "Probably. I'm so sorry, this is all my fault."

She turned to him. "It's okay, we'll figure it out." She offered him a smile, but he didn't return it. He stared into her eyes intensely.

"I never really said this before but, I think you're really really pretty. And I guess since we're technically already in Hell, we can say we've been to Hell and back when Castiel comes to get us. I really like you, so-"

"I like you too Adam, but right now, we have a lot of things to worry about. Remember that I'll probably be different, since we're fighting for our lives and we're falling through ravines and-"

"I'll like you anyways. When we get back, we'll go to Starbucks for something warm, okay? I promise. It'll be like a real date or something. Starbucks and a burger." He smiled at her and kissed her suddenly.

__________ was surprised at the warmth of his breath against her face, but she kissed him back anyways.

"Okay," she whispered, smiling. "That sounds nice."
