The River - Good Charlotte (ft. M. Shadows & Synyster Gates)
Lucifer caressed Sam's face. Lucifer's hands were soft against Sam's skin. He glanced up at him.

God he was beautiful. That smile entranced him.

But beautiful things don't always stay that way. He wasn't everything he said. Sam had seen enough to know that.

He was an angel, wasn't he? He couldn't be all bad. Lucifer kissed Sam's cheek, standing on the balls of his feet in order to do so. His unassuming blue eyes pulled Sam in. He pressed his lips to Lucifer's, melting into the coldness, which soon became pleasant.

What would Dean say?

That night as he lay with Lucifer's arms wrapped around his torso, he prayed.

I know I've done a lot of things wrong, but I'm a believer. Save me. Save me please.

But how guilty he felt in thinking those words, as Lucifer nuzzled into his back, his soft, cornsilk hair static against Sam's skin. How guilty.

Lost It All - Black Veil Brides
Lucifer watched the sun set, seemingly in awe.

"This place was mine," he whispered.

Sam sat beside him.

"I had this right in front of me, but I decided to turn against my Father." He seemed to be speaking without hearing himself, just sort of babbling on. "But I knew, I knew, he'd believe me, when I told him the people were evil. But the funny thing is, I made you so. I made you little creatures dark and corrupt, just like me."

"Lucifer-"

"Shut your mouth Sam, I'm speaking," Lucifer said cooly. "You know what I see now? Death, all I've brought here is darkness and horror and death. You were so... innocent and stupid at one time. I miss that. You were so easily toyed with, but yet so willing to give praise. You were so perfect in my Father's eyes. And you were, more perfect than Gabriel, Michael and I together. And I hated it. I deserved that praise not you, you little mortal things."

"Lucifer-"

"Sam, what did I just say?" Lucifer shot him a glare. The sun cast a red wash over the landscape. It amazed even Sam.

"No, you listen to me," Sam snapped, shaking himself from his wonder. "You made a mistake. You were foolish. Now you can forget that and go home."

"I can't go home now, not after everything."

"Prideful."

"Of course."

"We all fall down, Lucifer," Sam said. "You just have to get up."

Lucifer turned to look at the boyish figure beside him. He'd never put it in that perspective before. Maybe Sam was right...

"No."

"You're so stubborn," Sam chuckled. Lucifer nodded, though he was still turning Sam's words over and over in his head.

Terrible Love - The National
"Please Sam, say yes." Lucifer's pleading eyes were devastating Sam. "Please, I love you. We'll be together, forever. Just let me in, please."

"I can't," Sam said. "Please understand, I love you, but I can't do this."

Lucifer's shoulders slumped forward and he sat down on the edge of the bed. Sam picked him up and held him.

"I just can't do it."

Lucifer pressed his head against Sam's well-defined chest, feeling the warmth against his cheek. Sam's steady heartbeat was comforting. It was something he didn't have.

He was different.

If he had Sam he'd have this living, warm, beautiful thing. But Sam was too good, too upstanding for him. He was too smart, too educated, too logical for him.

Sam rocked Lucifer.

"I won't follow you down," Sam murmured. "But I certainly will keep you near me when I'm here."

Lucifer was fine with that, as long as he had Sam, his world would keep spinning.

Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums - A Perfect Circle
Sam watched, watched as Lucifer killed the many volunteers lining up before him, his face twisted in horror and shock.

"Sam, my love, come here, don't look there."

Sam spun around. He turned back around. There were two Lucifers?

"Which one of you is real? I won't-"

"We're both real," Lucifer said slowly. "It's called duplicating, Sam, did you go to elementary school?"

Sam bit his lip. "What are you doing to them?"

They dropped off like flies with every flick of Lucifer's wrist.

Lucifer tilted Sam's face back at him. "Don't look. Go back to sleep, my love. It's alright. I'll keep you safe."

"From what?"

"This painful truth, my sweet. Just go, do as I say, it's for the better." Lucifer's sweet, apologetic smile almost melted Sam but the screams drowned it out.

"Lucifer, I can't stay here with-"

"Shh, I'm protecting you from those nasty people who want to hurt you," Lucifer cooed. "This is all for you."

"I don't want-"

"It's okay." Lucifer stared into Sam's eyes, looking completely innocent. "Trust me. I must save you from them, and yourself. Your conscience is eating away at you, isn't it?"

Sam swallowed.

"I can take it all away." Lucifer reached for him but Sam shook it off. He narrowed his eyes and snapped his fingers.

"I can't, make it stop!" Sam clapped his hands over his ears, the screams suddenly and overwhelmingly loud. "Stop it, please! Lucifer please, I'm begging you!"

Lucifer watched as Sam began to scream and cry.

"Stop it please!"

"Sam, when I tell you to do something you do it, alright?" Lucifer arched an eyebrow, like a mother would do at a naughty child. "Now, go back to bed, my love, okay?"

Sam whimpered and nodded. Lucifer reached up and wiped away his tears. "It'll be okay in the morning. I promise."

Paradise - Coldplay
Sam slept sprawled out over the blue and untidy sheets, his clothes from the day before wrinkled in a heap on the floor, all but his jeans.

Lucifer watched. He wanted to see those petty dreams, that those petty humans thought up.

"Dean, I'm flying!" Sam squealed, as he soared alongside his brother. "Dean! Watch me!"

Dean laughed, his boyish face bright in the sunlight. "Time to come down."

He set the younger boy down.

Was that Sam?

"I can't wait to go hunting with you tonight!" Sam smiled.

Dean's smile faltered. "Y-Yeah, Sam. Just, always hold my hand, okay?"

"I know!" Sam smiled.

He was so excited, his face glowed.

The trees swayed as the cool night wind blew. He reached up for Dean's hand as they tromped through the woods.

"What are we hunting for this time, Dean?"

"Leprechauns," Dean replied.

And Sam was very happy, and very proud when Dean told John Winchester that Sam had caught the leprechaun, though Dean had done most of the work.

Lucifer felt guilty for taking that relationship and folding it on itself. He'd never seen Sam so happy, so at home.

He never knew how real those dreams seemed to humans. He never thought that it felt like you were there. He just thought they were like thoughts, conscious and aware, not like a whole new world.

He felt guilty for killing Dean. He wouldn't tell Sam until the next day.

He could have Dean in his dreams, but not here. Here was for Lucifer and Lucifer alone, and he wouldn't budge on that, as selfish as it was. Sam could have Dean and his father in his dream paradise, away from the harsh reality of this world, ruled by chaos and hate and Lucifer himself. There was no time for that in the waking hours.
